Super Bowl 46 WOD
Mental Nutrition: Quantity vs Quality
True Story
A pottery teacher decided to do an experiment. She told half of the class that they were going to be graded on their quality of work or their final project. And she told the other half that they were to be graded on the quantity of work or how many pieces of pottery they turned in.
Guess which group had the better work in the end? 10 burpees if you guessed incorrectly!
The group that was graded on quantity had the best final work. The reason is because the second group cranked out a lot more pots than the first. The first group had paralysis from analysis. They sat and thought and designed and in the end only made a few pots. The second group just kept working and practicing. Yes, their work was ugly at first, but they improved on every pot that they did. They learned from their mistakes and found better ways of doing the same thing by trial and error.
You can only learn and perfect your craft by putting yourself out there and doing it. So many of us are afraid of failure, looking silly or missing a rep so much so that we never practice what we need to do. We all like to boost our ego and do the things we are good at. I’m upper body strong so I love doing pull-ups, muscle ups and toes to bars. I have found better and more efficient ways to do these movements through practice and play. Sound familiar?
Time to face our demons and work on what needs working on. Find joy in failing and realize that success and failure is not a destination but a journey. As long as you don’t stop trying you can’t fail.
